Could Friday's earthquake have consequences for the volcano below Yellowstone National Park?

According to the news of today, the Friday earthquake has now been upgraded to a 9.0 magnitude quake  -  and a severe aftershock is expected within 3 days. An aftershock more powerful than the other hundreds of aftershocks that have already made the ground of Japan to shake.

One question that strikes me and for sure many others is, could the major earthquake have been predicted? Not at all being an expert, I have understood that it actually was predicted, but that it was not possible to predict to actual time for it. Two days prior to the quake, there was some activities in the ground that gave strong indications of a major quake in the near future. I do not know how many who were aware of that. And of those who were aware of it, how many took it seriously  -  seriously in a matter of the consequences that we can now see, even here in Norway from the other side of the globe.

Isn't that one of the problems we have  -  we get information without taking it seriously because we cannot imagine that it can actually happen, or we cannot imagine the actual consequences of it. For me having my educational background within business and economy, I have heard about the possible major earthquake that would hit Tokyo and affect the global economy. Despite this information, you live on as if it will never happen  -  at least not within a time frame that it will have impact on our lives of today. What will be the long term consequences of last Friday's earthquake, we do not know. What we do know, is that this quake did not hit Tokyo.....!

May I announce another predicted disaster? Are you ready for it? Or will you read it and think that it will not happen  -  simply because it is too difficult to imagine that it actually can happen and because it is too difficult to imagine the consequences of such a disaster? A geologist posted this advice just over two years ago: "I am advising all State officials around Yellowstone National Park for a potential State of Emergency. In the last week over 252 earthquakes have been observed by the USGS. We have a 3D view on the movement of magma rising underground. We have all of the pre warning signs og a major eruption from a super volcano."

This was posted more than two years ago and nothing has happened, you might say. That is correct. Still, researchers report that this volcano has been rising a record rate since 2004. Its floor has gone up three inches per year for the last three years indicating the fastest rate since records began in 1923. The most recent swarm started after the January 2010 Haiti earthquake.
