Everyday recommendations

You know, we were watching a great movie last night. You should see it. I think you would like it. 

That restaurant has such good food. The service was good and it had a relaxing atmosphere. Try it out next time you plan to eat out. 

These were just two examples of recommendations that most of us once in a while get from friends, colleagues and others. 

Do you feel offended when it happens to you? Is it difficult for you to respond to such recommendations? Probably not. And why should it be difficult! 

But what if you are told about a friend's or a colleague's great experience in church? How do you feel then? Offended? Is it difficult to respond to? And if you are a Christian, do you think it is more difficult to recommend your church than a movie or a restaurant? 

Maybe this has to do with European culture and materialism. My experience is that people more likely will follow your recommendation for a good movie than a great church meeting. 

Why is it so that many people seem to think more about food, movies and so on, instead of eternal matters? 

In my part of the world, it is probably because Christians have spent too much time presenting the rules and commandments of a religion than the personal relationships with our living God through Jesus Christ. 

I pray that us Jesus believers will focus on God's love and undeserved favour in the everyday life that is relevant to the average man and woman. And for you who are not a believer, the next time someone talks about church, ask them about Jesus. Because you should not involve yourself in a religious church that will be a condemning experience for you. Rather accept to visit a church that preaches Jesus so that you can learn about God's love and undeserved favour.
